You would have to have been hiding under a huge pile of Belgian waffles to miss the news that cycling rockstar and 2012 winning machine Tom Boonen has taken victory at this year's Tour of Flanders (Ronde van Vlaanderen).
Back to his winning best this year, the great man has shown what a class act he is when it comes to the one day spring classics. This win takes his Tour of Flanders tally to three (2005, 2006, 2012), which goes together nicely with three victories at Gent-Wevelgem (2004, 2011, 2012) and three at Paris-Roubaix (2005, 2008, 2009).
In the end Tommeke won out in a slugfest between an in-form Allessandro Ballan (BMC) and the ever improving Phillipo Pozzato. The video below shows the cat & mouse games of the final kilometres:
I know I'm a little biased, but I can't help but to think Boonen's (and the rest of the Omega Pharma Quickstep team's) regular return to the stop step of the podium has something to do with the switch back to Specialized bikes for the 2012 season.

It goes without saying that Tom Boonen and Omega Pharma Quickstep will be doing all they can to capitalise on Boonen's good form in a tilt for another Paris-Roubaix title this weekend.
